Katherine Festa - Serving Our Community for 25 Years

A message from Katherine:

I want to continue to make a difference in our community.

For the last 17 years I have worked for King County Government, as a Housing and Outreach
Coordinator, in the Department of Community and Human Services/Developmental Disabilities Division.
My work has taught me the importance of affordable housing, family support and community
engagement. I have gained valuable experience in conducting outreach, governance, budgeting, and
planning. For example, I planned and implemented a housing conference for persons with intellectual
and/or developmental disabilities. Over 350 persons attended with 5 tracks and 20 different classes to
attend. The event occurred last March at Highline College. I’ve attached a picture.

Currently I am on the Citizen’s Advisory Board to the Federal Way Chief of Police, Andy Hwang. This
has deepened my understanding of the importance of public safety and complexity of the criminal justice

I am a past Chair, Board Member, and Treasurer of the King County Employee Giving Program for 10
years. The program reaches over 14,000 employees within King County government and is currently
giving 1.9 million dollars to over 900 nonprofits.

I am a founding member of The King County Native American Leadership Council. The Council has
done great work, with the help of Councilmember Larry Gossett, we received a Proclamation for
“National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women” (May 5th).

I also regularly attend meetings with Federal Way City Council, King County Women’s Advisory Board
and Federal Way Coalition Against Human Trafficking.

In the past 25 years that I’ve lived in Federal Way I’ve helped raise my sister’s three children. Now that
they are on their own, I have helped two different homeless women become drug free and get jobs. They
both live successfully in the community. I presently share my home with my rescue basset hound and I
enjoy my volunteer work.

I am running for Federal Way City Council because I want to continue to make a difference in our
community. I believe change starts locally and through relationships. I am able to teach and learn from
others. My work and volunteer duties have provided opportunities to meet and get to know the leadership
of King County government. I care about the community I live in and have connected with many people
in the community.

Thank you for your support,

Katherine Festa for Federal Way City Council Position 7
